Most mobiles do have a mic/speaker in the handset device, but also many mobiles have a small speaker installed to listen to when the handset isn’t plugged in, if you have 20 or 30 tiny holes int he top or bottom of the mobile then you probably have a built in speaker, on some units you have to select the speaker, consult your manual if you have on on how yoru particular model works.

Most CB’s have a small built in speaker in the actual body of the radio itself , NOT the handset.
The handset is just the microphone.

However many radios require the microphone to remain plugged in for proper operation.

Without the microphone plugged in , the receiver section may not work ,and no sound will be heard ,,, but it depends upon the model radio.
